Proper Use Of A Spider Crane

Pre-Operation Preparation
Site Assessment
Carefully inspect the ground conditions at the work site to ensure the surface is solid, level, and capable of supporting the combined weight of the spider crane and the load being lifted. If the ground is muddy or soft, implement reinforcement measures-such as laying down steel plates-to prevent the equipment from sinking.

Evaluate the available vertical and horizontal space. Identify any potential obstacles, such as power lines, pipelines, or building structures, to ensure the spider crane has sufficient clearance for operation and to avoid collisions.

Assess the geological conditions of the site. If unstable factors-such as underground voids or soft soil layers-are present, take appropriate corrective action or adjust the operational plan accordingly.

Equipment Inspection
Inspect all components of the spider crane to ensure they are in good condition, including the outriggers, boom, wire ropes, and hook. Check the outriggers for deformation or cracks; verify that the boom extension mechanism operates smoothly; examine wire ropes for broken strands or wear; and inspect the hook for cracks, deformation, or other defects.

Verify that the hydraulic system is functioning correctly. Check that the hydraulic fluid level is within the specified range and inspect hydraulic lines for leaks. Once the equipment is started, ensure that the hydraulic system pressure remains stable and that all hydraulic functions operate smoothly.

Check the electrical system. Inspect cables for damage or signs of aging, and ensure that all electrical components are functioning properly. Confirm that the equipment's lighting, signaling devices, and other electrical systems are operational.

Test the braking system to ensure reliability. Perform a brake test to guarantee that the equipment can engage its brakes promptly during lifting operations, preventing the load from slipping or the crane from shifting.

Outrigger Operation
Deploying the Outriggers
After positioning the spider crane at the work site, slowly operate the outrigger control valves to extend the outriggers. During deployment, monitor the process to ensure that every outrigger is fully extended and firmly supported on the ground.

Adjust the support height of each outrigger based on the ground conditions to ensure the equipment remains level. Use tools such as a spirit level (bubble level) to assist in this adjustment, ensuring the stability of the equipment throughout the operation. Check the stability of the outriggers.
Once the outriggers are extended and adjusted to the correct height, re-examine the support provided by each one. Ensure that every outrigger is in firm contact with the ground, with no signs of looseness, sinking, or instability.

Gently shake the equipment to test its stability. If any noticeable wobbling occurs, readjust the outriggers or implement reinforcement measures.
